first of all, let’s talk about quality. Not all steaks are equal. If you are going to cook steak and chips then make that steak a juicy one!

Personally, I love my steak as is. A splash of garlic butter over it and no more. But sauces for steaks are really popular. Some of you find the simple cut of meat a little too simple, preferring something to cover it. Don’t forget that you don’t have to soak your steak in it’s sauce. You can always invest is some stainless steel jugs and and let your guests pour to their preference. šŸ™‚

So What are The Most Popular Sauces?

Where steak is concerned, it has to the peppercorn sauce. It has a great kick without being too over-the-top. It doesn’t take away from your steak, rather it enhances it.

Peppercorn Sauce RecipeĀ 

Ingredients

  • 30g salted butter
  • 30gĀ plain flour
  • 200Ā mlĀ milk
  • Salt
  • Roughly 100 ml or chicken stock and water
  • Splash of brandy of course
  • Approx 4 teaspoons of black peppercornsĀ –Ā vary this according to how powerful you want your sauce

Method:

Melt the butter in the pan with the pain flour and a little milk. Stir rigorously until you have a rue. Gradually add the rest of the stock water and milk. Now add the salt, the peppercorns and the brandy and bring to the boil until the sauce thickens adequately.

Blue Cheese Sauce

  • 30g salted butter
  • 30g plain flour
  • 200 ml milk
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Crumbled blue cheese as required

Method:

Melt the butter in the pan with the pain flour and a little milk. Stir rigorously until you have a rue. Gradually add the rest of the milk. Now add the salt, the peppercorns and the crumbled blue cheese and bring to the boil until the sauce thickens adequately.

Both of these sauces enhance a steak, especially when you keep it simple. Steak, chips and some grilled mushrooms. Happy days!
